We have several superintendents in the area surrounding Atlanta who are suddenly announcing their retirement. As in, wow, I just figured out I can retire now instead of next year, so I will be gone by Easter.
Now, it is either a way of avoiding the budget mess, or a way of solving the budget sort of. As in, if I leave, you can hire someone who costs less.
Are any of you seeing this?

Not here in Central California. They are giving raises to superintendents here.
My guess is they heard some unpleasant news (budget cuts? more state requirements etc) that they don't want to deal with so . . they're gone.
I'd quit in a red hot minute if I could. If I was a superintendent, I'd quit even faster.
our sup got a bonus MONTHS before we got a cost of living increase. . . and before the test scores came out. He's not leaving us yet until our district is a ROYAL mess and he's collected all of the bonuses
so, no I guess that is not happening here.
btw, thanks for the link.
I am going to go with they want to get out before the whole budget mess gets worse.
