Six Word Saturday

Brat is NOT a learning disability.

Attitude majorly affects both your grade and your teacher's willingness to assist, but just because you are unwilling to go along with the program and follow the rules doesn't mean that I have to go out of my way to make up work you will miss while sitting in time out.

Most intelligent creatures learn this before they enter kindergarten. Sorry you are a slow learner.

Oh man, don't come teach at my school...we have a high population of students who make most teachers wish that EVERYDAY was Friday. I hear your struggle, though - teachers are often asked to make up for the areas their students lacking, though the implied expectation is that the students aren't lacking in this area. I'm not a teacher, I'm a CYW, so I tend to be drawn to those students. What can I say? I love the kids that are hard to love....

I hope next week goes better for you!

I completely agree with your sentiment. I spend too much time trying to help students to catch up with what they have missed due to their own time wasting activities.

I'm an evil woman, then... whenever I have students come asking for extra credit to bring up their grade, I open up my gradebook, and list off 2-3 missing assignments from the book. I then tell them that when I get those, I can give them more... Those who will actually work will finally learn something. Those who won't will now stop pestering me for magic fixes to their grades.

And my solution for the endless retakes? You have to come to tutorial and do problems until I'm sure you can pass the test. THEN you can retake it. No more of this endless retakes until you magically memorize the answers or manage to eliminate all possible wrong answers or get hit with lottery-winning luck and pass.

Just wondering what they're learning (both socially and academically) in that scenario. While I agree that rules need to be followed, I hope that my own kids don't just "go along with the program" to get a grade, and that when they might question something they're not just put in timeout and not allowed to learn a skill or concept.
