This is a hard year

I wrote yesterday about bailing out the ocean with a teaspoon.

Life is tough all over.

I was snagged by a colleague this morning. We aren't that close - hi in the morning once a month or so. I didn't even know she had kids til this morning.

The woman was in tears. Her department is completely dysfunctional this year - backstabbing has been raised to a competitive sport. This woman has always been viewed as a star - but her own department is saying horrible things about her. And the only reason I can see is jealousy.

Why would you make your work a toxic environment?

I see this happening in more than one department.

What is wrong with people?

The admins love to play one teacher against another--divide and conquer is their main ammo

Yes, but if they get the natives to kill one another, there'll be no one left to actually DO ANY WORK....

What I've come to realize is that the struggling employees feel the need to attack the good employees to make themselves look better. Supervisors are distracted by the attacks and are then not looking at the struggling employees. I've been in the position of the good employee--time wins out. Just encourage her to keep on plugging along and hopefully everyone will pull their heads out and realize what a good teacher she is.
