OK I have called all thirty of the kids who are failing my class.
Specifically, I have called their parents, spreading joy wherever I go, telling them what they need to do in order to pass.
I am sure they think I am the Grinch - I wish they could see that it is only because I care.
I because I have to be able to document that I have told the parents in a timely manner.
Merry Christmas to all!!

Thirty? You have thirty students who are failing? That's a LOT of phone calls!
Oh man, now I feel guilty that I didn't do this same thing. I have 47 failing (out of 130). For some there is still some hope, but for most the grades are in the 20's and 30's (and even a 0.92) and there is not much they can do in the two weeks after Christmas to salvage their grade.
I was doing much better with my parent phone calls the first 9 week grading period. I guess I better get back on track in January. Maybe it can be one of my New Years Resolutions.
We have to document that the parents know. This time I have several over 18 - technically, I don't need to tell their parents. But I do. I even sent a letter to the parent who keeps hanging up on me.
BTW that's thirty out of 135. Still too high.
