Detroit teachers are being asked to agree to give up $500 a month in a "loan" to the city that they would "get back" when they retire.
How many of YOU believe they'd ever see the money again?
Is it just teachers being asked to give up money - I am not seeing that the mayor, the superintendent, the board are being asked to contribute.
Having said that, DPS is $218 Million in the hole - something has to give.

Many years agom, NYC teachers also were asked, and agreed, to give up money to help the city out. We did get the money back and in exchange we got some days off rearranged to get a week off in February. We also got two years added to our retirement. Most of us didn't think it was worth it but the plan passed anyway.
And, having been laid off in the business world, if they asked me to take a pay cut or lose my job, I;d take the cut. Oh, wait, I already did this year and will again.
Poor Detroit. What a mess of a city. I guess I'd take the pay cut too, but I'd sure be unhappy about the situation.
