I thought I had reached a student and that she was going to succeed. Another really bad (as in character-flawed) decision and I will not see her again.
She didn't do it to me, but to herself.
I still feel like I have been sucker punched.

I learned a long time ago not to take these actions to heart. Some of these kids don't have the staying power needed to succeed. Let's hope that some of the things you gave her will eventually sink in and help her in the future.
Now there is a good question....learning that nothing is free...and work from there!
