I have decided to keep track of what I spend on supplies (and where I put them) for this school year. Just getting ready for this year I have spent $170 for my students. I am still looking for notebook paper, copy paper (at a price less than $30 a case), and copies of a few things (to make posters for my room).
And this is really cutting back for me.

Parsimonious soul that I am (and underpaid as well), I refuse to buy anything for my students. Luckily, I'm able to scrounge supplies from the office folks. They're pretty good to me!
I have worked in all kinds of businesses and have always been the one to help others. I have collected used notebooks in offices and carted them to schools rather than let them go to landfill. It bothers me that this year I just can't carry the weight of the students.
I have recently started using an online budgeting site to keep track of my spending habits. So far, I like it.
