Characteristics of a teacher leader

A friend asked me to post this question: what are the characteristics of a teacher leader?

What makes a teacher a leader?

What should we be seeing in this day and age of teachers to lead us out of this mess?

Now that's a great question....but anything that can get a person/child/dog/baby/cat to be excited is the first step...then back it up with giving them something to look forward to...in figuring it out....

a teacher leader shares. They are mentor other teachers for the sake of helping the profession. Their goal is to extend the life span of new teachers in the profession. They are supportive.

A teacher leader is someone who serves novices without recognition. They are constantly modeling and sharing lessons.

I think teacher leaders need to speak up to those in power making decisions about education. . . specifically testing. Why is it that my school spends two weeks in testing mode at the end of the school year. And when you add up the total number of days spent testing, its approximately 1 month of days spent in testing.

I don't know if I've answered your questions. . . .
