Six Word Saturday

Focus on groups, not the individual.

I teach high school math. I am supposed to do group projects, keep all 35 students in the class working on the project with no slackers, and yet assess the individual. Daily. In all classes. In 50 minutes.

When did their learning become my responsibility?

As a parent, I never liked group projects when the kids did them. There always seemed to be one slacker in the group (often my child, LOL). I understand the concept of what is being taught, but I prefer individual over group. Just my opinion :)

It seems sometimes you just never know what will work...it may not work this time, but try it again later and it works....I so remember when my son was in 5th grade the teacher handed out assignments..they were to do them at their own pace and put them in the box...at the next grading period when I spoke with the teacher my son had hardly turned anything in... my opinion, they were too young to not be monitored more...I fought for hand out an assignment set a date it's due and immediate trouble if it's not in! Not 20 missing assignments 6 weeks later!!!

As a parent and a teacher, I do not like group work. You always have a slacker that end up bringing the whole group down. Wish we could just get back to teaching!
