Moving on

One of the kids I really liked - and connected with but couldn't ultimately reach - came to say she was transferring.

Another whom I never reached is probably dropping out.

How good am I really?

You can't help them all. Think of the ones you did reach.

Ricochet, don't be too hard on yourself. By the time you get the student, the poor person has been failed in so many ways. Just keep trying.

one thing I have learned is that we only see these kids 55 minutes a day. In that time you show them that you care and are there for them. But after that...they need to make their own choices.

I learned pretty early on not to get too attached to them because after 4 years they are gone and chances are you will never know what became of them. Of course they don't realize the investment you put into them, so you really can't blame it all on them.

PO, Theresa, Mr. W - thank you. I KNOW all this. I FEEL that if I had been better, smarter, said the right thing, there would be more AHA moments.

Thank you again!

you didn't cause her to transfer; no one even asked your opinion.

You *are* a good teacher, otherwise you wouldn't care that she was gone.
